Freshman discusses potential work aspirations, fine films, Papa Smurf and rain clouds.
SWANGO: How do you get a job working for the Wildcat?
WILDCAT: You just go walk into the office and then they beg you to work for them. Would you like to work for the Wildcat?
SWANGO: Well, does it pay or is it volunteer?
WILDCAT: It pays and it pays mighty well. (Editor's note: Not really.) So why'd you choose media arts as a major?
SWANGO: I chose my major because it's what I've been interested in for the past 2 1/2 years. I've been interested in movies and film for quite a long time.
WILDCAT: What's your favorite movie?
SWANGO: I'm gonna go with "Trainspotting."
WILDCAT: There's a lot of drug use in that movie. Do you like to use drugs or something?
SWANGO: No, but I like the idea of people that do use drugs.
WILDCAT: Have you seen "Requiem For a Dream?" Because there's a lot of drug use in that.
SWANGO: I have. In fact, Darren Aronofsky is my favorite film director.
WILDCAT: What's your least favorite film?
SWANGO: "The Fast and the Furious."
WILDCAT: Yeah, it was a big ball of suck, wasn't it?
SWANGO: Suck it was.
WILDCAT: You know, Vin Diesel has another movie that just came out called "XXX?" It also sucks.
SWANGO: Yep, it sucks, too. I haven't seen it but I'm sure it sucks.
WILDCAT: Who's your favorite Smurf?
SWANGO: Papa Smurf. That's the only one I know.
WILDCAT: What about Care Bears?
SWANGO: I don't know any of the Care Bears. Let's see, the one with the rain cloud on his stomach.
WILDCAT: Is that Grumpy?
SWANGO: I have no idea. Isn't that a Seven Dwarf, Grumpy?
WILDCAT: Maybe, maybe. It might be a Dwarf and a Care Bear. So are you going to come down and apply for a job at the Wildcat?
SWANGO: Sure, do they look for certain people with certain majors to write for the Wildcat or do they just take whoever?
WILDCAT: No, they'll take anybody.
