photo ÎIncredible' Wildcats rout WKU

Lute Olson said his Wildcats are the deepest and most talented team that he has ever coached.

Arizona showed off those qualities against Western Kentucky Saturday.

The No. 1 Wildcats made a statement with a dominating 107-68 victory over No. 19 WKU in front of 14,584 in McKale Center.

The loss was the worst loss since 1990 for the Hilltoppers.

"Today was a case of too much quickness and too much size at the wings spots for Western Kentucky to handle," Olson said. "Western Kentucky is a very good basketball team with a lot of experience. We got a lot of pressure on them, and a lot of turnovers that we forced them into were the result of our size and pass deflections." [Read article]

photo Game Analysis: Press, depth lead to blowout win

When WKU head coach Dennis Felton was asked what went wrong Saturday, he only needed one word to answer ÷ "everything."

The Wildcats dismantled the Hilltoppers by 39 points and showed what a lineup full of athletic and talented players could do to a team that plays a slow, set offense.

"Arizona is in another solar system from us," Felton said. "In terms of athleticism and talent, it's not even close." [Read article]

Upset eludes UA women

Unranked Wildcats take No. 3 LSU to overtime before falling short, 78-71

For 42 minutes, there was no difference between unranked Arizona and No. 3 LSU.

It wasn't until the final three minutes of overtime that the Tigers were finally able to shake the youthful UA team and squeak out a 78-71 win Friday night in McKale Center in front of 2,651 people.

"We didn't give up," freshman center Shawntinice Polk said. "People are going to know now that this Arizona team is going to come out and fight." [Read article]

Women back in action on road tonight

Basketball continues non-conference schedule with game at Pepperdine

Less than four days after losing a close 78-71 game to the No. 3 team in the nation, the Arizona women's basketball team will play its first road game of the season at Pepperdine tonight.

Pepperdine (0-1) is just one team in a long line of tough non-conference opponents for the Wildcats this season.

The Waves also lost their season opener last Friday as they fell to Xavier 62-54 in Malibu, Calif. The team's only scorer in double digits was sophomore forward Shanell Law, with 12 points. [Read article]

Volleyball splits with LA schools

LOS ANGELES ÷ A night after getting swept by the top-ranked team in the country, the Arizona women's volleyball team showed once again that it will not get down after a loss.

The Wildcats came out Friday night and defeated UCLA, just hours after getting shut out against No. 1 USC.

"I really thought we were well prepared," said UA head coach David Rubio about the loss to the Trojans. "I thought that once the ball was in play, that we would be fine. USC is clearly the best team in the country." [Read article]

photo Icecats exorcise Demons

The Icecats have been looking to make a statement in every game this season, and that's what they did against visiting DePaul, outscoring the Blue Demons 30-3 in a two game weekend sweep.

DePaul (3-8-1) came into the weekend overmatched from the start, as it was a late addition to the UA schedule after Buffalo pulled out of its commitment to travel to Tucson just days before the start of the season. [Read article]

Club soccer falls short of title

Arizona defeated 2-1 to eventual champs

A long hard-fought season came to an end this weekend for the men's club soccer team as the Wildcats fell short in their national title dream.

A 1-1-2 record in the national tournament held in Bakersfield, Calif. left the high-powered Wildcats with a final rank of No. 5.

"Ranked five out of 116 schools is pretty good if you ask me," head coach David Hunter said. [Read article]
