Sophomore from Zambia talks about the Tucson weather, Dr. Phil and why she wants to grow fins
WILDCAT: Where are you from? You have such a fun accent.
CHIRWA: Oh really? I'm from Zambia.
WILDCAT: Wow. When did you move here?
CHIRWA: About two years ago.
WILDCAT: That's so cool. I totally want an accent. I may just start talking with one and hope it sticks.
CHIRWA: Oh really?
WILDCAT: So, wasn't it like a million degrees yesterday? Why is it so dang cold right now?
CHIRWA: I know, it's freezing.
WILDCAT: I wish the weather would just make up its mind. Either be hot or cold, but don't toy with our emotions.
CHIRWA: I don't like it when it's so cold.
WILDCAT: Ditto to that. So, what did you do this weekend?
CHIRWA: I just stayed home and studied. I watched TV.
WILDCAT: What's your favorite show?
CHIRWA: Um · I like watching Oprah.
WILDCAT: Oprah knows her stuff.
CHIRWA: She's very motivational.
WILDCAT: Now, did you like Dr. Phil better when he was on Oprah or now that he has his own show?
CHIRWA: On his own.
WILDCAT: Really? He kinda annoys me. Sometimes I just want to, well, I don't know what I want to do, but he really annoys me.
CHIRWA: I think he's inspirational.
WILDCAT: So, if the world were to flood right now, would you rather grow gills on your neck so you could swim under water at all times, or would you prefer to have fins but have to come up for air?
CHIRWA: I think I'll go for fins, Īcuz I love fresh air.
WILDCAT: Great answer. When I was little I tied my legs up and pretended I was a mermaid.
WILDCAT PHOTOGRAPHER: She still does.
WILDCAT: Yes, I squirm on the newsroom floor all mermaid-style.
CHIRWA: Really?
WILDCAT: No, no.
CHIRWA: That is funny.
