Students should see the world beyond Îsecurity of Old Main'
To all of the current UA students, I just had a small question to put to your minds. Do you understand the severity of the current political atmosphere? I understand that right now you all are plagued with tuition hikes, sports victories and the thought of where to go for spring break, but since I have graduated and entered the "real world" I have realized three things to be true: bills, taxes and politics. Do any of you know what is happening, and not because you had to for Professor Mishler's (political science) class?

Behavior policies just a start
More than three months after the tragic nursing college shootings, the Dean of Students Office has enacted new policies for dealing with student behavior problems.
The guidelines are a long-needed step in the direction toward campus safety, but these latest procedures would have done nothing to prevent the shootings that left three professors dead last semester.
Words on paper are no defense in a tense situation. University professors, many without formal classroom management skills, need hands-on professional guidance on how to deal with disturbing and violent behavior.

ÎFast Facts' back, along with other changes
The old saying is that ideas look better on paper than in action.
Well, in the case of a newspaper, sometimes ideas sound better before they're on paper. Such was the case with the page two Campus section of the Wildcat this semester.
Some longstanding features made way for changes in content and design, and readers spoke out. There were some productive changes, like an online reader poll and an expanded "Datebook" of campus events for the day.

With freedom comes responsibility
Living in the United States, we are able to freely express ourselves. Anyone can exercise freedom of speech and press as stated explicitly in the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights. In order for our country to justify our independence, this amendment must be defended and adhered to without pride or prejudice until the end of time.
With this privilege to disclose personal conviction, we also have the obligation to exercise restraint and discretion in utilizing this right of free speech. Not because there is a law or any other penalty involved, but in consideration of tact for boundaries that should not be crossed.
