A UA student was arrested Tuesday for possessing prescription pills, 3 ounces of marijuana and 1.2 ounces of cocaine in his dorm room.

The amount of drugs confiscated was more than UAPD officials have seen on campus in a long time, said Sgt. Eugene Mejia, UAPD spokesman.

UAPD officers searched the room of Patrick Jameson Madden, a business freshman, after receiving an anonymous tip.

Inside Room 221 at the Navajo Residence Hall, 1557 E. Sixth St., officers found 3 ounces of marijuana in seven different bags, 221 prescription pills, 1.2 ounces of cocaine and various drug paraphernalia. Everything had been hidden in a footlocker inside the room.

Officers also found $1,300 in cash inside Madden's room.

Madden has lived in the residence hall, which is within Arizona Stadium, since the beginning of the year.

Mejia said police are not sure how long Madden had been selling drugs or to whom he was selling them.

The pills found in Madden's room are being tested to determine exactly what they are, a process that can take as long as six weeks, Mejia said.

Mejia said the pills were marked "Roche 10," a manufacturer that makes a variety of drugs, including Valium.

"These type of narcotics and the amount obtained are unusual for the campus area," Mejia said. "We usually run across drugs that are for personal usage."

Madden was arrested on suspicion of possession of narcotic drugs for sale, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of prescription drugs for sale, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was taken to Pima County Jail and was released Wednesday.

If Madden is convicted of possessing drugs for sale, it is likely he will face the maximum penalty, Mejia said.
