This week's winners ... and losers

The bomb - Sophomore pitcher Alicia Hollowell's perfect game against Indiana. She scored her third consecutive Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week award for her 20 strikeouts in seven innings on the mound. In short, she's got "Hall of Famer" written all over her.

A bomb - Slobodan Milosevic's trial. Experts concur that it's likely the Serbian leader will be acquitted on charges of crimes against humanity. Such an outcome would seem appropriate for such a bizarre, outrageous trial ... but a "not guilty" verdict would be a crime in and of itself. Where's hardcore American justice when we really need it?

The bomb - The proposed Cats RIDDE program. If the student activity fee slated for an April ballot goes through, part of the money might be used to fund the program, which offers intoxicated students and their friends rides home. What better way is there to use a student fund than to help students with something everyone should care about: eliminating drunken drivers from Tucson's roads?

A bomb - Spring break sans responsibility. When students hit the beaches and bars in Mexico this weekend, many can expect to land in jail or worse. A new open container law south of the border can only aggravate students' notorious trouble with the law. Students should remember to party safe, not hard.

The bomb - Iraqi Fulbright scholars at the UA. The six students, who recently arrived in the United States along with 19 other Iraqis attending other universities, will help rebuild relations between the United States and the former dictatorship.

A bomb - President Bush's campaign ads. After promising never to attempt to use footage of the Sept. 11 attacks for personal gain, Bush is doing just that. The tacky, divisive ads should be removed from the airwaves immediately in response to victims' rights groups' criticism that they disrespect of those who lost their lives in the tragic attacks.
