QB position up for grabs
Earlier this month, new UA offensive coordinator Mike Canales appeared in Police Beat after he found two cartridges of ammunition in a local hotel parking lot and reported them to police. Today, he'll discover a lot of firepower again, when he finally sees his stable of quarterbacks in action.
The UA football team's (2-10, 1-7 Pacific 10 Conference last year) spring practices begin today, with the question of who will line up under center looming large.

Brotherly (-in law) love
UA men's duo is partners on the court, family off
Whether they win or lose as a doubles team for the UA men's tennis program, Paul Warkentin and Daniel Andrus will still have family ties.
The pair is in-laws - Paul's brother is married to Daniel's sister.
Warkentin and Andrus were also roommates last year, and assistant coach Tad Berkowitz calls them brothers.
"Paul is the vocal leader of the team," Berkowitz said. "He gets loud and pretty fiery. Daniel is kind of the quiet guy. It's a good combination for them, playing together."

SF Giants prez to speak tonight at business school
Peter Magowan, president and managing general partner of the MLB's San Francisco Giants, will speak on campus tonight as part of the Eller College of Business and Public Administration's speaker series.
Magowan, who is also director of Safeway Food Stores, Caterpillar, Inc. and Daimler Chrysler, will speak in Room 120 of the Integrated Learning Center from 5:30 to 6:30 tonight.
Faham Zakariaei, a marketing and international business senior and the president of the Eller Student Alumni Association, said that Magowan should appeal to students with a broad range of interests.

Women's Golf: Cats jump up six spots in
second round of Invitational
The Arizona women's golf team moved up six spots in yesterday's second round of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational.
Entering tomorrow's final round in Austin, Texas, the team finds itself in a tie for sixth place, nine shots out of the top five.
Head coach Greg Allen said even with the team's minor improvement from the first to second round, his players are still doing things that have haunted them throughout the spring season.

Decathletes, heptathletes set to compete at UA track meet
Today and tomorrow, Arizona track and field will host the Mike Maynard Wildcat Combined Events, a competition that features decathletes and heptathletes.
The competition will feature squads from Arizona State, Army, Oregon, Kansas State and South Dakota, and several unattached athletes.
Three Wildcat women are set to represent Arizona in the heptathlon - Amanda Underwood, Jessica Corkill and Lexie Viggiano. Underwood will take on a leadership role, as she has been the only heptathlete on the Arizona roster for the last two years.
