Peter Magowan, president and managing general partner of the MLB's San Francisco Giants, will speak on campus tonight as part of the Eller College of Business and Public Administration's speaker series.

Magowan, who is also director of Safeway Food Stores, Caterpillar, Inc. and Daimler Chrysler, will speak in Room 120 of the Integrated Learning Center from 5:30 to 6:30 tonight.

Faham Zakariaei, a marketing and international business senior and the president of the Eller Student Alumni Association, said that Magowan should appeal to students with a broad range of interests.

"I think it's a very rare and great opportunity for students," Zakariaei said. "He's obviously pretty well rounded. The fact that he's not only involved in sports, but also in the food industry and auto industry only shows how well-rounded he is."

Zakariaei, who is also the student coordinator of the Eller speaker series, said he approached Magowan partly because of high student response to Jerry Colangelo's speech last year.

Colangelo, the chairman and CEO of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Phoenix Suns, drew such a large crowd to the Gallagher Theater in November that students had to sit in the aisles.

Zakariaei said he was pleased with the series' success in attracting big-name leaders of business to speak at the UA.

"Definitely, we're excited. It does a lot not only for the college, but for the student organizations."

Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity and the Sports Marketing Association are also sponsoring the event.
