UA will recycle old phone books

The University of Arizona is once again getting ready to switch out its old phone books for new ones. The sixteenth annual telephone directory recycling program runs Sept. 10 through Oct. 3, and is sponsored by the UA Facilities Management Recycling and Waste Program.

Everyone is asked to be aware of the program and make sure all unwanted old phone directories are removed from campus buildings during the recycling collection period. Old directories will be removed from campus by Waste Management Recycle America and taken to GreenFiber, an insulation manufacturer in Phoenix, to be made into environmentally sound home and building insulation.

Bear Down closed for repairs

All offices and services in Bear Down Gym are closed today and tomorrow for electrical work.

Facilities Design and Construction will direct the replacement of a transformer that will require a temporary power interruption to the entire facility.

During this power outage Bear Down Gym and weight room users will be welcome to use the facilities at the Student Recreation Center.

Faculty, staff and students who currently use the Bear Down Locker Room are welcome to use the locker facilities at the SRC at no charge.

Travelling sculptures start at UA

Four 900-pound, steel sculptures, each 14 feet tall, will begin their national tour of the United States with an exhibition on the UA Mall. The unveiling on Monday, Sept. 22 is part of the UA's celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Titled "Border Dynamics," the art is the first commission of Beyond Borders: Binational Art Foundation, a Tucson-based non-profit corporation, dedicated to fostering art that stimulates discussions on contemporary border issues. The sculptures were initially installed and exhibited on the Mexican side of the U.S./Mexico border in Nogales, Sonora.
