Track tries to repeat victory in shootout

The Arizona track and field teams continue the outdoor season and battle to retain their crown tomorrow in the Jim Click Shootout.

In last year's shootout, Arizona finished first overall with 350 total points and a wide margin of victory over second-place Colorado (229 points). Cal State Los Angeles rounded off the top three with 116 points.

This year, the competition is more intense, with a tough field of athletes from CSULA, Oregon, Nebraska, Kansas State, and Cal State Northridge.

"It's one of our showcase meets, and we have super competition with Nebraska, Kansas State and Oregon," said UA head coach Fred Harvey. "We're loading our folks up in the areas where they are most efficient and see how they do."

"There is always good competition, and I feel that we should come out on top again," said sophomore sprinter Angel Perkins. "(There is) a lot more competition this year than there was last year. Being the athlete that I am, I always run harder when there's people to push you to a faster time."

Action gets underway today at 11 a.m. with the women's hammer throw at Drachman Stadium.
