Wildcats lock up Lopez
Skipper will not leave for UCLA
The UA athletics department and head baseball coach Andy Lopez have agreed to terms on a multi-year contract extension, putting an end to speculation that Lopez might leave for his alma-mater, UCLA.
The extension, expected to be approved at today's meeting of the Arizona Board of Regents in Tempe, will keep Lopez in Tucson through the end of the 2008 season. He would make just over $86,000 per season.

Miller fills in for hurt teammates
The slogan "Miller Time" usually refers to fermented hops, but there is a small group of people who know it actually refers to shots.
Shots on goal, anyway.
Sophomore Mallory Miller is leading the Arizona soccer team with 25 shots through six games so far, 11 of them on goal. Miller has also put up eight points (three goals and two assists), putting her name right next to junior Candice Wilks atop the Wildcat points list.

Kenya native Cheseret beats heat, burns Sun Devils for first victory
When Robert Cheseret crossed the finish line first in last week's Dave Murray Invitational, the budding cross-country speedster got one step closer to becoming a star at Arizona.
Born in Kapsabet, Kenya as the eighth of ten children, running has always been in Cheseret's blood. His older brother, Bernard Lagat, a former University of Washington standout, has inspired the freshman's career. Lagat became famous during the 2000 Olympics by claiming the bronze medal in the 1,500-meter dash.

Women's golf hopes to rebound in Music City
The women's golf team begins its second tournament of the season tomorrow at the Mason Rudolph Championship in Nashville, Tenn.
The tournament, hosted by Vanderbilt, will take place at the 6,276-yard Legends Club course. It will feature four of the top ten teams in the GolfWorld Coaches' Poll.
"This is a great tournament with lots of good teams," head coach Greg Allen said. "Auburn's here, and they beat us last week."

Men's tennis opens season
Wildcats debut in California tourney
The UA men's tennis team travels to Southern California today for its first opportunity to show off its talents and start the 2003-04 season off right.
The Laguna Niguel Futures Tournament starts tomorrow and runs through Sunday in Laguna Niguel, Calif. Arizona is sending four returning letter-winners to the tournament, along with one freshman.
Senior Carl Hagman, the Wildcats' team captain in 2002-03, will be making the trip. Hagman went 2-0 in the No. 1 position in singles last season. He was 17-14 overall and was a Pacific 10 Conference honorable mention performer.
