If Arizona volleyball's string of four matches against top-10 teams wasn't hard enough, facing Southern California may be as tough as trying to pull the wooden horse trick again.

Saturday, Arizona (6-9, 0-5 Pacific 10 Conference) concludes its Los Angeles road trip at No. 1 USC (14-0, 5-0), which has had every first-place vote in the polls since the beginning of the season. Not only are the Trojans undefeated, they have lost just one game all year. [Read article]

photo NCAA to extend 3-point distance

Should Arizona's basketball squad win a national championship this season, its chances of repeating the following year may be bumped back.

About nine inches back.

NCAA officials have announced plans to extend the 3-point arc by almost a foot, pushing the line back to 20 feet, 6 inches.

"You, I and half the student body can (still) knock down that 3-point shot," Arizona assistant coach Josh Pastner said. [Read article]

Women's golf one shot back in Seattle

The Arizona women's golf team stands tied for second place after its second day of competition at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Seattle, Wash. after shooting a 16-over-par 592 yesterday.

Arizona trails second-round leader California by one stroke after the Golden Bears shot a 15-over-par 591. UCLA (592) is tied with Arizona at second. Southern California (601) occupies third place and Oregon holds fifth with a 36-over-par 612. [Read article]

Hollands advances at ITA

The Arizona women's tennis team completed the first day of the ITA-All American qualifying tournament today in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The Wildcats advanced junior Dianne Hollands to the second round of play. The doubles team of sophomore Iza Ferreira and junior Maja Mlakar was forced to retire in the middle of its match.

Hollands defeated Harvard's Eva Wang 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in first-round action. In second-round action tomorrow, Hollands will play Stanford's Theresa Logar. Hollands will be competing to advance to the third round, where she would have the chance to claim one of eight spots to advance to the singles main-draw round. [Read article]

Walton loses Calif. recall election bid

With 71 percent of precincts reporting, the Wildcat is projecting that Luke Walton's brother will fail in his bid to replace recalled California Governor Gray Davis.

Nathan Whitecloud Walton, brother of the former UA basketball forward, entered the California recall election along with 134 other gubernatorial candidates ÷ and although he will not come out on top, he was among the top half of the field early this morning. [Read article]
