photo Football: Another heartbreaker at home

Cats fall again after late-game miscues

Arizona outplayed, out-gained and overpowered UCLA Saturday at Arizona Stadium in front of a family weekend crowd of 44,481.

The Wildcats also outscored the Bruins in another category ÷ costly mistakes.

The Wildcats (1-6, 0-2 Pacific 10 Conference) dropped their sixth straight game and 13th consecutive Pac-10 home contest, falling to UCLA, 24-21. [Read article]

photo Football: Farmer shows signs of old dominance

Based on Arizona's rushing performances over the last year, the team's rushing total against UCLA looked like the stat-keeper accidentally reversed the totals for the two teams.

Even without a win, it was a good day for the Wildcat running game.

On Saturday, Arizona put itself in a position to win with its breakout ground performance, gaining 276 yards ÷ its highest total since running for 258 against Oregon in October 2001. [Read article]

The scores may not indicate how the UA soccer team played during its pair of home games this weekend, as it fell to 0-2 in Pacific 10 Conference play after losing to No. 21 California and Stanford.

Arizona (4-7-1, 0-2-0 Pac-10) lost 3-0 yesterday to Cal (6-3-3, 1-1-0) after playing the Golden Bears tough in the first half.

On Friday, the Wildcats couldn't hold on to a 2-1 lead against Stanford (6-6-1, 1-1-0), falling 3-2. [Read article]

Volleyball: Wildcats upset Bruins on road

Too bad the Arizona volleyball team only has three road trips to the Los Angeles area.

The Wildcats (7-10, 1-6 Pacific 10 Conference) got rid of the zero in the win column of their conference record by upsetting No. 8 UCLA (13-3, 5-2) 3-1 for their second big upset in the Los Angeles area in as many trips. The Wildcats previously beat then No. 5 Pepperdine 3-1, earlier this season.

On Saturday, the UA lost to No. 1 Southern California (16-0, 7-0) in straight sets, but the un-beatable Women of Troy, who have lost only one game all year, to UCLA, might have played their best match of the year. [Read article]
