Athlete of the week: Blasberg in driver's seat
Erica Blasberg won her second consecutive golf tournament last week at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational near Seattle, earning her Athlete of the Week honors. The sophomore from Corona, Calif. has notched her fourth win in less than a year and extended her streak of top-10 finishes to 12 straight tournaments.
The Wildcat had a chance to sit down with Erica after she slid past this young reporter 1-up at the McKale Center putting green to see what she thought about baseball, boys and teenage golfing sensation Michelle Wei.

Cats welcome slumping Ducks
Fifth-year senior setter Kelly Griffin-Halfaker transferred to Arizona because it is a "much better opportunity" ÷ and she has parlayed that opportunity into another start tonight against Oregon.
Tonight at 7 in McKale Center, Arizona (7-10, 1-6 Pacific 10 Conference) plays Oregon (3-13, 0-7) in Griffin-Halfaker's first game at home as the starting setter. Griffin-Halfaker gets the nod after recording a match-high 43 assists in the Wildcats' 3-1 upset over UCLA last weekend.

Commentary: Weekend could bring turnaround for athletics
It's been a rough few weeks for Arizona athletics. The football team has lost six in a row and undergone an embarrassing, highly publicized coaching change at midseason. The volleyball team has lost six of its last seven after entering the season ranked No. 10 in the country. The soccer team has posted four losses and a tie in its last five outings.
Then, of course, there's the negative student response to the athletics department's decision to move Midnight Madness to the afternoon ÷ not to mention grumblings over the $40 the Zona Zoo pass has cost students who wish to get basketball tickets.

Was that a 'lil bit 'o Billy Buckner revisited yesterday, a la Yankees third baseman Aaron Boone? I'm convinced that damned curse also rolled right through his legs on that slow roller. Something just tells me Pedro and his Beantown mates are going to send Ra-jah and the Bombers packing again for their showdown with those magical fish from South Florida ÷ who are making their second trip to the Series in seven years.
