I'll be honest with you. I'm not completely happy to be in Tucson right now. In fact, I sort of wish I wasn't here.
You see, I spent the entire summer in New York City, where I did a couple of internships and explored the job market that I'll be entering all too soon. Most importantly, I drank a lot, danced a lot, tried to stay awake on the subway, made lots of wonderful friends (plus one or two enemies), and enjoyed myself immensely.
Then about two weeks ago, I came back to Tucson. I couldn't believe how hot it was. I couldn't believe how humid it was. And, as I spent my first Thursday night at home in about eight weeks, I wondered what the hell there was to do in this godforsaken town.
But I've gotten used to the heat, the affordable housing and the cheap food again. I've also realized that there's a lot to do in Tucson, both on and off the campus. This semester, I want to make sure GoWild tells you all about it.
How are we going to do this? For starters, we're expanding our coverage. Expect to see more info on on-campus events and more previews of upcoming arts performances, exhibits and readings ever week. Also expect to see more coverage of concerts, galleries and other activities going on in Tucson and in the downtown arts district. We're also reorganizing our section to include restaurant and bar reviews, shopping recommendations, and profiles of the artists, musicians and performers that bring you all these fine things to see and do in Tucson. We'll be keeping all our book, film and music reviews, but we'll also be expanding what we review to accommodate a whole range of tastes and preferences. And don't worry. A features writer will still be venting opinions in our weekly column, so you can keep sending us your notes of appreciation and hostility.
LiveCulture, our weekly features section that debuted last fall, moves to Wednesdays and Fridays this year. That section is also changing, and will include more style and fashion coverage, as well as more features on UA students: What they're doing, wearing and buying.
This semester, I urge you to consider GoWild and LiveCulture your campus guides to what to do, eat, read, buy, watch and wear, on and around the University this semester ÷ because there really are a lot of things to do in Tucson, you just have to look for them. Actually, we just have to look for them. You should just sit back and read.
