Anthropology sophomore has a tongue ring and wants to work in the Dominican Republic

Wildcat: Hi, my name's Nathan and you're On the Spot.

Boria: OK. My name's Alina.

Wildcat: Do you have a tongue ring?

Boria: Yeah, I have a tongue ring.

Wildcat: Do you have two?

Boria: No I have one.

Wildcat: I thought I saw a bunch of glitter in there. [Boria shows her tongue] Whoa! Oh, it's just a six-pronged ring.

Boria: It's a little flower thing with blue in the middle.

Wildcat: Oh that's cool. What made you get that?

Boria: I don't know. I just wanted it. That's it.

Wildcat: Where are you from?

Boria: I'm from Massachusetts.

Wildcat: You came here because it's warm or what?

Boria: Yeah, because of the weather and because of my major. I'm studying anthropology.

Wildcat: I'm in an anthropology class right now. "Patterns in Prehistory," I think.

Boria: Oh, I took that class!

Wildcat: Yeah. I thought it would be more about like, patterns and prehistory, but it's a lot about bones and stuff.

Boria: You don't like all that? Well, anthropology, you know, you got to deal with the bones and the culture and everything, like the materials and all that kind of stuff. That's why you learn about the bones. It's important.

Wildcat: So where do you want to "anthropolage?"

Boria: Where do I want to study? I'm thinking I want to do cultural anthropology in the Dominican Republic, around the Caribbean.

Wildcat: You don't have an accent? You don't say the "ah" in water or like ...

Boria: Aw, you see what happened is, I went to Massachusetts only for the last few years of my life. I was born in New York so I have more of a New York accent. New York, then Pennsylvania, then Massachusetts - so I kind of have a mix of accents.

Wildcat: Wow. I have one New York story, but I think I've used it already, about some guy who came up to me and offered me a watch. We were in Time Square.

Boria: Oh you mean one of those people who stand on the corners selling watches ...

Wildcat: He pulled it out of his jacket in a little box and was like, "hey, check it out, yo."
