Eller College receives money to fund scholars program

The Eller College of Business and Public Administration at the UA in Tucson has received $12,000 from the Smith Barney/Citigroup Foundation in support of the Smith Barney Scholars Program. Smith Barney executives Michael J. Healer and Terrence D. Ormsbee presented the check to Eller College Dean Mark Zupan and UA Foundation Maricopa Office of Development Director Shaun Griffith Brenton at Smith Barney's Scottsdale location.

The gift will be used to fund the Smith Barney Scholars Program. The objective of the program is to increase access to first-rate business education for talented students who may not have the financial means necessary to pursue an education in the Eller College.

Mexico's science policy adviser visits Tucson today

Jamie Parada, science and technology policy adviser to Mexico President Vicente Fox, is in Tucson today, and will be discussing research and economic development initiatives with representatives of the University of Arizona, Mexico and Canada. Parada is also director general of the Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnologia (CONACyT), the Mexican equivalent of the U.S. National Science Foundation.

"The visit of Mr. Parada exemplifies the interest and commitment of Mexico in moving these discussions into real and viable projects," said Bruce Wright, UA associate vice president for economical development.

UA's GROW Web site wins Macromedia's MAX Award

UA's GROW Project Team has won Macromedia's 2003 MAX Award in the education category. The MAX Awards recognize the most innovative Web sites, CDs, advertisements and other digital presentations created with Macromedia software. Macromedia produces such widely used software as Dreamweaver, Flash and Fireworks.

GROW (Geotechnical, Rock and Water Resources Library) is a portal Web site that directs readers to civil engineering-related Web sites that have been reviewed for content and accuracy by the GROW committee. The GROW site also includes animated labs, interactive course work, videos of engineering labs and other resources.
