WEEKEND SPORTS UPDATE:
UA shows no love for Bruins in 24-point win

photo Stoudamire scores career-high 34 in rout

Led by the junior guard's career-best 34 points, Arizona (16-6) trounced UCLA, 107-83. Four fouls weren't enough to slow Stoudamire, who shot 13-of-17 from the floor, including 7-of-9 from beyond the arc, as the Wildcats climbed to 8-5 in the Pacific 10 Conference.

"We definitely got our swagger back," Stoudamire said, "But we still have to keep our focus."

Geosciences students educate local kids

photo Rock hammer in hand and sporting sunglasses as protective eye gear, Theresa Kayzar smashes a large, clear quartz crystal, sending small shards shattering across a parking lot.

Kayzar, like many geologists, is wildly attached to her rock hammer.

"I've had it for 2 1/2 years. It is like my baby. I have a special place for it at home," Kayzar confessed, while wiping blood from her finger after being sliced by a sharp slice of quartz. "It is kinda burnt because I put it in lava in Hawaii." [Read article]

Sure, digitally manipulated voice samples implying the presence of God sound amazing, but can you dance to them?

Composer Daniel Asia, professor of music and head of the UA's composition program, thinks you can. As part of a celebration of Asia's 50th birthday, he's presenting his electroacoustic composition, "Sacred and Profane," in a new way. [Read article]

You've been there before, sitting at a traffic light in your Geo Metro. A car pulls up next to you, windows tinted, strobe lights flashing and subwoofers pumping; just for a second, you think, "I can take him."

You're wrong, and he's long gone. There's a lot more behind these tricked-out street racers and the students who built them than your three cylinders can take. [Read article]

I have a confession to make: I am not getting laid. For most, that's not the stuff shame is made of ÷ in fact, quite the opposite. But when your credentials are built on indiscretions, it seems like an admission better-suited to an anonymous whisper than a bold declaration. [Read article]
