Antoine Cason entered his first collegiate game as a true freshman, hoping to make an impact in the secondary and left as the Pacific 10 Conference's Defensive Player of the Week. Cason: was the first Wildcat freshman to earn the award since Michael Jolivette in 2000 and was the first Arizona player to receive the honor following his first game. The Los Alamitos, Calif., native left the field as arguably the most influential player of the night, racking up 13 tackles (12 solo and one for a loss), one tipped pass, two forced fumbles and an interception. Front row center: Thinking outside the box score

Just how monumental is the Wildcat soccer team's start this year?

Head coach Dan Tobias' team has jumped out to a spotless 4-0 record so far this season by winning a pair of tournaments over the past two weeks, including the Wildcats' own Arizona Invitational last weekend.

Considering that this Arizona program - in its 10 seasons of existence - has never posted a four game win streak of any kind before now, "impressive" just slightly trumps "it's about time" as the first idea that pops into mind. [Read article]

photo O'Hara leaves school, football team to be with family

Sophomore backup quarterback Ryan O'Hara left school yesterday to return home to be with his brother who had a kidney transplant Monday and will be gone the remainder of the school semester, head coach Mike Stoops said.

Stoops said he does not know if O'Hara will return to the team after this season.

O'Hara, who started one game under center last year for the Wildcats, is going home to Pasadena, Calif., to be with his family and help them deal with the crisis, Stoops said. [Read article]

Freshman cornerback Antoine Cason's collegiate career is less than a week old and he already has an award on his resumé.

Cason was named the Pacific-10 Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Wildcats' 21-3 opening game win over Northern Arizona. Cason led the Wildcats in tackles with 13 (12 solo), added an interception, two forced fumbles, a tackle for a loss and a tip pass. [Read article]

Men's golf in 9th after first round in Japan

The Arizona men's golf team stands in ninth place after the first round yesterday of the 2004 Topy Cup in Fukushima, Japan.

Arizona posted a 12-over-par 300 in the opening round of the 2004-05 season, and stands in ninth place. Texas, one of four U.S. collegiate squads in the event, leads the 11-team field by one stroke after carding a 284 (-4) total. Auburn (285), New Mexico (285) and Tohoku Fukushi (291) round out the top four places. [Read article]
