Wild play abounded like Easter eggs yesterday for the No. 2 Arizona softball team.

The Wildcats (26-2) overcame seven walks by Alicia Hollowell to capitalize on six Louisiana-Lafayette errors and win 10-3 at Ragin' Cajuns Park.

Caitlin Lowe hit an inside-the-park grand slam in the sixth inning and finished 2-for-4 for Arizona, which scored eight unearned runs off starter Brooke Mitchell (17-6).

Mitchell took both losses for the No. 14 Cajuns (22-7), after allowing five walks and two runs in Arizona's 2-0 victory Friday, in her first appearances against the Wildcats since winning 5-0 in May to eliminate them from the postseason.

"You have to be on your game to get the best of her," said Arizona assistant coach Larry Ray. "I thought really, both games this weekend, our team did a great job of battling, and we had some tremendous at-bats and played very good defense."

Hollowell (17-1) got her second win in as many starts in the series. She allowed three runs on four hits in seven innings and struck out 16, giving her 247 on the year.

"She had no walks on Friday and seven today," Ray said. "It was cause for coach (Mike) Candrea to get ejected (in the fifth inning), and needless to say, it was bad for both teams."

Arizona loaded the bases in the sixth with no outs before senior first baseman Crystal Farley and senior outfielder Allyson Von Liechtenstein struck out.

Lowe stepped to the plate and hit a shot into center field for her second inside-the-park home run of the season and second overall.

"The short-gamers did a tremendous job getting on base," Ray said.

Lafayette right fielder Danyele Gomez scored the team's lone runs with a home run in the bottom of the fifth. She finished 1-for-4 with a run.

Junior second baseman Shelley Schultz, batting .203 entering the series, went 3-for-4 with two runs for Arizona, slapping a double for her first extra-base hit of the season.

Rain showers cancelled Saturday's game as a light drizzle persisted past the scheduled 7 p.m. starting time.

"Center field and right field, when they had pulled the tarp off, that's where all the water collected," Ray said. "I guess they considered the field a little unsafe."

Freshman catcher Callista Balko rejoined the lineup after a one-week absence. She went hitless in six at-bats with two runs.

"It was nice to see her back," Ray said. "She handed (being out) really well, and the team is very confident in her. Defensively, she had a tremendous series."

Arizona put up two runs in the first three innings Friday against Mitchell, ending with five hits.

Lowe went 2-for-3 with a run, and senior third baseman Jackie Coburn ended 1-for-3 with an RBI.

"A key for this team is to jump out ahead," Ray said. "Alicia's strong with a lead. She's awful tough. You kind of see that a little bit in the opposition. When we score early, it kind of deflates them."

Hollowell allowed only one hit Friday and fanned 11.

The games ended a nearly month-long road trip for the Wildcats. They return to Hillenbrand Stadium to open Pacific 10 Conference play Friday against No. 6 Stanford.

"I think this weekend was a good test prior to next weekend," Ray said. "This is a very hostile environment and a great softball atmosphere, but it was a good situation for our team to be in. Right now, I think we are ready for the Pac-10."
