Jewish students reunited with friends

Jewish UA students who traveled to Israel over winter break were temporarily reunited this week with four Israeli soldiers they befriended while visiting the country.

When the UA Hillel Foundation sent 40 students to Israel over the winter, the students met and befriended eight Israeli soldiers who were partnered with them by the Parallel Lives Project.

Ze'ev Cohen, 21, Omer Hartung, 20, Limor Bajayo, 19 and Chen Levinstain, 19, arrived in Tucson Wednesday at about 10 p.m. after a 30-hour trip from Israel and will stay until April 25. [Read article]

Off to its best conference start in school history, the No. 6 Arizona baseball team returns home for a first-place showdown this weekend.

The Wildcats (24-10, 8-1 Pacific 10 Conference) host No. 11 Oregon State (26-5, 5-1) in a battle of the Pac-10's top teams at Sancet Stadium tonight and Saturday evening at 7, and Sunday at noon.

Both teams enter the matchup hot.

Arizona swept consecutive road series at UCLA and Washington State after not having swept a road series in six years, while the Beavers took two out of three at No. 14 Stanford after sweeping California. [Read article]

Applauding alphettes, maligning the men
photo A man walking down a beach stumbles across a lamp and a genie magically appears to grant him three wishes. The man requests he be made smart, wise and loved by everyone. The genie nods and turns him into a woman.

The AIFF is a 10-day long celebration of local and independent film, and it starts tonight. It is a great event for Tucson because it showcases national and international talent. But it is especially exciting because it exposes talent that has come out of the UA. [Read article]
