Students and faculty looking to buy a car this weekend won't have to look any farther than the UA Mall.

Watson Chevrolet and O'Rielly Chevrolet, in cooperation with the UA athletics department, will be selling 200 new cars on the east side of campus today and tomorrow.

"It's a one-stop shopping place if you're looking for a Chevrolet and an opportunity to get a good deal on a car," said Joe Watson, new car sales manager at Watson Chevrolet. "It's a good time to buy a vehicle because incentives are the highest they've been all year."

Watson Chevrolet and O'Rielly Chevrolet pay substantial sponsorship fees to Arizona Athletics, especially men's basketball and football, and they receive benefits in return, said Scott MacKenzie, associate athletics director for marketing and development.

"We try to find ways to create new promotions and revenue schemes," MacKenzie said. "This setup is very nice and it will attract customers. We are trying to promote it to Wildcat fans in general."

This is the first time the UA has ever hosted a car sales event on campus. MacKenzie said the sale on the Mall is comparable to any vendor selling items on the Mall except a vehicle has a much larger magnitude.

"Whenever you have an off-site sale you hope to get some enthusiasm when you bring the cars to the people," said Watson, a UA alumnus. "We're kind of in a friendly competition between each other so that people can come to one place where the dealerships can get together and give everyone great deals on cars."

Alex Norris, a pre-nursing freshman, said the car sale's location is ideal for students looking to make a purchase.

"If I got a good deal, I would buy a car there because it's right here so it's pretty convenient," Norris said.

Anyone who visits the tent sale will have a chance to win a brand-new car as an incentive to potential buyers.

Because this is the first year the dealerships held a sale on campus, Watson said they didn't know what to expect.

"If this is successful, we plan on doing it again sometime later in the year," Watson said.
