New site helps find lost bikes

Students missing their bicycles may find luck in a new Web site developed by a UA alumnus, aimed to help students find their stolen bicycles.

Brian Hance, an applications systems analyst at Arizona Student Media, developed the free site www.stolenbicycleregistry.com, which allows victims of theft to register and track their stolen bicycle, Hance said.

"It's 100 percent for everybody, both to register and search," Hance said.

Hance said he got the idea for the site after he became a victim of bicycle theft himself. [Read article]

L.A. story: Dee-Dee drafted 26th

After setting multiple records throughout her career at Arizona, it's only fitting that senior guard Dee-Dee Wheeler notch one more for the women's basketball team before playing at the professional level.

The Chicago native was drafted in the second round of the WNBA draft by the Los Angeles Sparks Saturday.

Wheeler was the Sparks' first pick and the 26th selection overall. She is Arizona's highest draft pick ever.

"I am obviously very excited and happy for her," said Arizona head coach Joan Bonvicini. "She's worked extremely hard. It's a great reward when you have a dream for yourself. I think she's going to have a great opportunity to make the team in L.A. [Read article]

Jackson of Tennessee defeated John Quincy Adams of Massachusetts in the election of 1828, the modern Democratic Party was born. That election, which has been described as the first triumph of the common man in American politics, pitted the moneyed interests of the Northeast against the rural interests of farmers and laborers from the South and West.

But somewhere in the last century and a half, the whiskey-slamming, farm-working, back-slapping Democrats of old have been replaced by green-tea-sippin', modern-art-buying, NPR-listening, progressive liberals. [Read article]

Andrea Hashim dreamed of becoming Miss America since she was a little girl, and she has just taken one step closer to making that dream a reality.

Twenty-two-year-old Hashim, a first-year dance graduate student, beat out nine competitors to be crowned Miss Tucson Valley April 2 and is gearing up for the Miss Arizona pageant in June. Miss Arizona goes on to compete for Miss America in Atlantic City. [Read article]
