Movers and shakers on campus

  • Sonia Aguila, pre-health education undergraduate; Lourdes Barrera, Olga Felix and Christine Armenta, public health graduates; Melisa Celaya, pursuing a doctorate in epidemiology - Awarded $4,000 Latina Scholarship for academic achievement and service to the Latino Community.

  • Mark Bierner, botanist and lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin - New director of the Boyce Thompson Arboretum. "I want everything to be so wonderful and so beautiful that (patrons) are wide-eyed, saying 'Ooooooh, Aaaaah!'"

  • Richard Green, Kitt Peak National Observatory Director - New director of Large Binocular Telescope on Mount Graham. "LBT pushes the state of the art in telescope performance, and it is a tremendous honor to be named the director. I'm excited by the challenge of completing the ambitious vision and satisfying the partners' scientific aspirations for this powerful, path-finding telescope."

  • Joy Harjo, former UA professor of English and American Indian studies, University of New Mexico creative writing teacher, award-winning and internationally recognized poet, performer, musician and author - Featured at Native Eyes 2005: 2nd Annual Film Showcase.

  • Chelsey Horn, psychology freshman - MeTeen.com Needle-in-Haystack-Finder. "I couldn't believe I had found a needle in a haystack!"

  • Laurence Hurley, D.Sc. College Pharmacy, Arizona Cancer Center - Awarded Sosnovsky silver medal by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

  • Nancy Odegaard, conservator and heard of the Arizona State Museum Preservation Division - Elected president of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works, the national membership organization of conservation professionals.
