Frat conducts project to raise hurricane-relief funds

The Theta Pi Chapter of the Sigma Pi fraternity is selling blue wristbands on the UA Mall this week that say "WildKats For Katrina." The wristbands are $2 each and the men will accept cash or check donations. All proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross.

Any questions can be referred to Mike Wilbur, the philanthropy chair, by e-mail at wrxmikey@email.arizona.edu, or donors can send a check payable to Sigma Pi Fraternity, ATTN: Mike Wilbur, 1525 E. Drachman St., Tucson, AZ 85719 with "Hurricane Relief" in the memo.

"The South has been devastated by both Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita, and it is vital that we give all the support we can to those who have lost everything," Wilbur said. "The hurricanes have come and gone but the need for aide is ongoing as they attempt to rebuild their lives."

Frats collaborate with local business to raise funds

Alpha Epsilon Pi and Sigma Kappa in conjunction with Chaffin's Family Restaurant and the American Red Cross are manning a donation booth for 162 consecutive hours this week.

Representatives from both fraternities will be at Chaffin's Family Restaurant, 902 E. Broadway Blvd., during the entire fundraiser. When guests enter the restaurant, fraternity members will ask the diners if they would like to make a donation to the Red Cross.

If the guests agree, the restaurant will automatically take 50 percent off of their total bill.

"It's a pretty good deal," said Brad Wulff, Alpha Epsilon Pi philanthropy chair.

The fundraiser started Saturday and will end Friday at 11:59 p.m.

Any questions should be directed to Wulff at (480) 577-0755.
