UA alum shares Vietnam experience during reading

A UA creative writing alumnus who was drafted during the Vietnam War will share of his experiences at a reading tonight.

Nonfiction writer Walker Thomas will show color slides and read from his book's manuscript "Notes from a Solitary" at 7:30 in the living room of Slonaker House.

He will talk about the process of getting published and will answer questions. Refreshments will be served.

The Undergraduate English and Creative Writing Club is sponsoring the event in cooperation with the Honors College.

Science students can apply for research trip to China

Alternative Breaks is now accepting applications for spring break.

The program is organizing four service-oriented trips from March 11 through 19. Students will be traveling throughout the Southwest to Los Angeles, Catalina Island, Calif., and the Mexican cities of Imuris, Enseñada and Nogales. Volunteers will participate in activities ranging from ecological conservation to community development.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday. They can be found on the program's Web site and submitted via e-mail to Sarah Lawton at lawton@email.arizona.edu.

Science students can apply for research trip to China

UA science and engineering students have an opportunity to research in China.

Clarkson University is seeking junior or sophomore students majoring in science or engineering fields for the National Science Foundation Research Opportunities for Undergrads program in marine science and engineering.

The opportunity is an 11-week research program based in China. Selected students will receive a financial support package of about $7,500.

The application deadline is March 10.
