The Arizona women's golf team finished third in the Hooters Colligate Match Play Championship yesterday after defeating Oklahoma 3-2 in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.

Juniors Cassandra Kirkland, Whitney Welch and Lani Elston were all victorious for the Wildcats in their final fall tournament.

Arizona fell to No. 1 seed Duke 3-2 on Monday after defeating Washington 3-1-1 earlier in the day. Senior Mar Garcia won both her matches on the day, but the Wildcats could only muster two wins against the Blue Devils.

The team will not compete again until February when they play in the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. to begin their spring schedule.

Eighth-seeded men fall early

The Arizona men's golf team lost two matches Monday in the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship to fall in a seventh-place tie in the Wildcats' final tournament of the fall season and end the tournament 1-2.

The Wildcats entered the tournament in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. seeded eighth and fell to 13th seed Clemson 3-2 in their final match with senior Nathan Lashley and sophomore Mark Lamb picking up the two team wins.

The team is finished for the fall season, but the Wildcats will be represented by individuals at the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic in El Paso, Texas, Nov. 22 and 23.
