ASUA to lure big acts to campus
ASUA will bring a high-profile comedian and major musical talent to campus this semester, a sharp contrast from the many political figures last semester.
Robin Williams and Dave Chappelle are the top two choices Associated Students of the University of Arizona leaders are pursuing to perform in a comedy show in February or March.
ASUA leaders have also considered inviting the Dave Matthews Band, U2, Radiohead, The Rolling Stones, Coldplay and Sting to Arizona Stadium for a concert in April or May.

Smoother student elections expected
Student leaders are taking steps to make upcoming ASUA elections run smoother than past years by changing the election code bylaws and opening up lines of communication between current office holders and candidates.
Last year, concerns arose when there were not enough applicants to fill the 10 seats in the Associated Students of the University of Arizona Senate.
When the deadline to turn in applications was extended, some candidates argued it was against the bylaws in the election code.

Student artists show off works in student union
Using a varied selection of media, two studio art students present their findings on the common bonds of humanity in an attempt to evoke the human spirit in their peers in an art exhibit on display this month.
Amanda Mucha, a studio art senior, and Gauri Salvi, a studio art and psychology senior, showcase their work in a free show in the Kachina Lounge on the second floor of the Student Union Memorial Center. A reception for the show will be held tomorrow from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Rec Center buddy plan helps health motivation
The Student Recreation Center launched "Bring a Buddy Week," yesterday in an effort to help students keep their New Year's resolutions.
This week the Rec Center is encouraging students to bring a buddy to work out with to keep them motivated to follow an exercise routine.
The Rec Center has always encouraged working out with a friend, but this year they are publicizing the event, said Andi Wardinsky, coordinator for fitness at the Rec Center.

Thomas Alva Edison made only one purely scientific discovery: the "Edison effect." It involves the flow of electricity across a vacuum. He patented the effect, but could think of no use for it and went on to other things. The Edison effect, however, turned out to be the basis of the whole electronics industry - radio, television and all.
"The cow must go" - a Henry Ford dictum in 1921. Always the iconoclast, the industrialist proposed that milk be made synthetically. His regard of dairy cows as inefficient and unsanitary animals may have stemmed from unpleasant experiences on his father's farm, where milking had been an exasperating and disagreeable labor.
