ASUA expects spirited campaign

Originally expecting a large turnout for student government applications, student leaders are still hopeful for an intense campaign despite the disappointment of receiving less than half of the response they intended.

The Associated Students of the University of Arizona election commission received 33 applications for all four elected positions, a little more than half of the applications that were picked up.

"I followed up with each person who picked up an application to see if I could help them with anything and answer any questions" said Adam Falck, ASUA election commissioner. "Only about half of them came through." [Read article]

Arizona bullies Cal for early 28-7 lead, takes back home court in win

Arizona men's basketball head coach Lute Olson had the scores from the 1987-88 squad posted in the players' lockers before they came in to dress for last night's game against California.

He said he wanted them to understand what home court advantage in McKale Center was all about - the 1987-88 team's margin of victory at home was 23.5 points, and the games were usually over within the first 10 minutes of play. [Read article]

Peter is an imposing figure. On this sunny Arizona afternoon, his sleeves are rolled up and small streams of sweat disappear behind his mirrored sunglasses. Gesticulating with one hand and clutching a Bible in the other, he speaks in insistent tones, the coiled muscles in his jaw clenching and relaxing with the cadence of his speech. Even in the heat, Peter doesn't pause for water (Peter isn't his real name, which he declined to give).

"This university is spreading lies!" he exclaims from Alumni Plaza, snatching up a copy of the Wildcat and pointing to the offending article – a feature on students and pornography. He pauses for a beat, sensing students' indifference, before switching rhetorical gears. [Read article]
