Men's Hoops: Riding the bench

Wildcats rely on non-starters to crunch minutes, add depth

The Arizona men's basketball team had no trouble taking care of the Bay Area schools last week, winning by a combined 39 points at home. Beating the scout team in practice, however, is an entirely different story.

The scout team of freshmen guards Jesus Verdejo and Daniel Dillon, senior forward Matt Brase and freshmen forwards Mohamed Tangara and Bret Brielmaier beat the starting five in practice last week 11-7, according to Olson. [Read article]

Arizona women's basketball assistant coach Yeshimbra "Shimmy" Gray knows a thing or two about discipline.

After working as a police officer and playing collegiate basketball for the University of Michigan, Gray is not one to shy away from hard work.

Whatever the task at hand, Gray is passionate about her work.

Gray was a police officer for the Ypsilanti Michigan Police Department and the University of Michigan Police Department from 1995 to 1998. [Read article]

There are some things in college basketball that will always have a fixture in the most exciting sports atmosphere in the world - March Madness.

As much as I hate to say it, the majestic Cameron Indoor Arena will always be the Mecca of the sport, and the fans will always be the most envied.

The right-hander also struck out a career-high 12 batters in No. 11 Arizona's 9-0 win over New Mexico, leading to a weekend sweep of the Lobos.
