From staff reports

In their second weekend of Pacific 10 Conference play, the UA softball team took both games of a doubleheader against Arizona State, 3-2 and 2-1 Saturday night in Tempe.

Entering the weekend, head coach Mike Candrea said he wanted to have his team bring together every aspect, offensively and defensively in a "complete performance."

Candrea got just that, as the Wildcats recorded 13 hits over the two games, including nine in the second game and carried a no-hitter into the start of the final inning of the night's second match-up.

The Wildcats scored both of their runs en route to victory in the second game in the fourth inning. Sophomore third baseman Toni Mascarenas scored on sophomore catcher Lindsey Collins' shot to left field. After advancing on that hit and stealing third base, sophomore left fielder Lauren Bauer scored on an infield single by freshman pitcher Jennie Finch.

The Sun Devils' late rally scored their only run of the game on a sac fly by Kathy Ponce to bring in senior Melissa Miller.

Highlighting game one were UA sophomore pitcher Becky Lemke, Mascarenas and junior right fielder Chrissy Gil. Lemke's win improved her record to 17-3. She had nine strikeouts and only one walk. Mascarenas and Gil both hit home runs in the game.
