Locker contents unknown
An unknown spontaneous combustion sparked a small fire in the men's locker room of Park Student Union, 601 N. Park, yesterday.
"Nothing like this has happened before," said Theresa Nicolls, Park Student Union supervisor.
Nicolls pulled the fire alarm at 12:18 p.m. after another employee noticed smoke coming from the male employees' restroom on the first level.
She was unable to determine the contents of the locker or how long the fire had been burning because the restroom had been locked.
The University of Arizona Police Department arrived at 12:19 p.m., said Sgt. Mike Smith, police spokesman. Several police cars and fire trucks arrived on scene.
When the Tucson Fire Department arrived at 12:22 p.m., they unlocked the door to discover the locker had spontaneously combusted, Smith said.
There was minimal damage to the locker, which was not assigned to any employees and no investigation is under way.
No one was injured and student union services were not interrupted.
