A UA student was arrested for drunken driving Thursday evening.
An officer driving east on East Speedway Boulevard noticed a 1997 Toyota Tacoma swerving in the lane it was driving in, and so he pulled it over near North Mountain Avenue and East Elm Street, reports stated.
The officer spoke with the driver, Timothy Steuernol, 21, of the 3000 Block of East Speedway Boulevard, who had bloodshot, watery eyes, reports stated.
The officer also noticed a strong smell of intoxicants coming from the car, so he asked Steuernol to step out of the vehicle so he could determine where the smell was coming from, reports stated.
After being administered field sobriety tests, Steuernol was arrested, taken to UAPD headquarters and charged with drunken driving.
The two other passengers in Steuernol's car were released at the scene and walked home, reports stated.
While at UAPD headquarters, Steuernol requested an independent alcohol blood test, and the officer volunteered to take him to a hospital, reports stated.
The officer told Steuernol that he thought such a test would cost about $450, but Steuernol did not believe him, reports stated.
After receiving confirmation of this price from an ER nurse at UMC, Steuernol declined to have the test taken, reports stated.
Steuernol was released at UAPD headquarters and took a taxi home.
A Tucson man was arrested at a convenience store Thursday after attempting to steal cheesecake bars, reports stated.

The manager told the officer that he had seen Jeremy Sean O'Brien, 27, of the 6000 Block of Sherpa Street, put three cheesecake bars in the front pocket of his jacket, reports stated.
O'Brien admitted to stealing the bars and gave two of them back to the officer, reports stated.
The manager of the Circle K told the officer he had warned O'Brien about panhandling there before, reports stated.
While the officer searched him, he discovered a necklace with a silver hollow tube around O'Brien's neck which had some cotton inside. The officer suspected it was used for holding heroin, reports stated.
The officer used a field drug testing kit to confirm that it was heroin, reports stated.
The officer also found a syringe and another cheesecake bar in O'Brien's jacket, reports stated.
Since O'Brien is a repeat offender, the officer charged him with felony possession of drug paraphernalia, shoplifting, false reporting to police and trespassing, reports stated.
He was taken to Pima County Jail and booked.
