Voting begins today in ASUA senate race

Polls open in primary election until 8 p.m. tomorrow

The 23 ASUA student government candidates will face off for the first time in the primary election today and tomorrow.

Because fewer than the minimum number of candidates allowed in a general election applied to run, no candidates will be eliminated in the primary.

Rather, the primary will give the six executive candidates and 17 senatorial candidates a sense of where they stand heading into next week's general election, which will determine next year's officers. [Read article]

Expert says hazing goes beyond greek system

Hazing probelms are more prevalent at the university level, not at the national level, a national hazing expert said last night.

Ron Binder, vice president of Gilchrist Alumni Management, a consulting firm that advises student organizations told a group of 25 people that honor societies and sports teams are also affiliated with hazing - verbal or physical abusing new members of a group. [Read article]

Arizona head coach Lute Olson finally had an open weekend to relax, and it couldn't have come at a better time.

With just one weekend remaining in Pacific 10 Conference play and six teams - Oregon, California, Southern California, UA, Stanford and UCLA - contending for at least a share of the regular-season conference title, the Wildcats were able to watch other teams beat on each other from the comfort of Tucson.
