The Laxcats head up north today to take on intrastate rival Arizona State at 7 p.m. in Tempe. This will be UA's final West Coast Lacrosse League South Division game, and a win would clinch a No. 1 seed heading into the WCLL playoffs.

"(Winning the WCLL South) is huge," Junior defenseman Jeff Kinsella said. "It would give us a first-round home game and a mental advantage going into the playoffs."

Senior goaltender Greg Parkington agreed and said that winning their division would be an excellent honor.

"We have a new coaching staff and a very young team," Parkington said. "It would be an amazing feat."

The Laxcats (5-0, 12-1) won't only be fighting for a division title but also state-bragging rights over the Sun Devils.

"No matter what sport you play," Kinsella said, "you hate ASU."

The Sun Devils (0-3, 1-7) come into tonight's matchup in last place in the WCLL South and are coming off a 14-11 loss to Santa Clara last week.

ASU is led this year by midfielders Chris Blentzas and Tim Cahill, who both have 14 points on the season.

The last time these two schools met, UA pummeled ASU 27-4 in Tucson last season. The Laxcats enter tonight's game riding a five-game winning streak and an eight-game winning streak over the Sun Devils.

UA is coming off its biggest scoring output of the year with a 22-7 win over Santa Clara last Tuesday.

Thirteen different Laxcats scored in the Santa Clara game, and the UA defense only allowed two goals after the first quarter.

Senior attackman Jay Spatafora leads both the WCLL and the Wildcats in points with 73, followed by junior attackman Charlie Mink (46) and sophomore attackman Jeems Lockridge (39).

The Laxcats' defensive unit is led by Kinsella and sophomore defenseman Tom Wiley.

According to both Parkington and Kinsella, the Laxcats are using the ASU game as a tune-up for their April 13 game against No. 1 Sonoma State.

The Laxcats will play their final two games of the regular season April 13-14 in Northern California against Sonoma State and San Francisco LC.
