Senate passes $3,955 to go to the last ASUA club-sponsored events
The ASUA senate unanimously passed $3,955 for club funding last night, overdrawing from their budget by $995. Executive Vice President Sam Chang donated the extra funding from his account. The Appropriations Board will not meet again until next year.
The UA chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers will participate in Comedy Central's television show "BattleBot" in San Francisco, after receiving approval last night of their request for $1,465.
The competition will take place May 21-28 and will allow those students national coverage on Comedy Central's second-highest-rated show, right behind "South Park."
The money from the Associated Students of the University of Arizona will provide the engineers with a 15-passenger van for transportation, as well as the competition's registration fee.
The Chi Phi fraternity was funded $1,000 to send three members to the College of Excellence, a once-a-year student leadership conference that will take place at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., this summer.
The senate funded The American Institute of Aeronautic & Astronautics $1,000 to go to the Design Build Fly Competition April 26 in Wichita, Kan.
The UA Advertising Club received $680 to participate in a conference that will take place in Denver this year. The club is premised on helping students gain a better understanding of the advertising industry and enhance members' interaction with people that are currently working in the industry.
Youth for Organ Donation Awareness accepted $150 from the senate to purchase an official banner for the group that will be displayed at the Organ Donation Awareness Drive on the Mall, April 22-25.
Additional funds available will go toward pamphlets that will be distributed during the drive. The group's purpose is to make the campus more aware of the national organ shortage and promote the signing of the organ donation cards in the area.
