The Arizona Film Festival continues its march across Tucson's big screens with a regional twist. Navajo filmmaker Gabriel Shaw will screen his short film "Chrysalis" at 9 30 a.m. Shaw and UA American Indian Studies faculty and students will discuss the film, which was shot in Gallup, N.M., and Holbrook. Workshops for the festival are free and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The group will meet in the Integrated Learning Center, Room 125. For more information, contact 628-1737 or visit the Web site at http://www.azfilmfest.com.

Want to learn more about abuse and violence, but don't want to watch a documentary featuring emergency rooms and ambulances? Stop by Old Main, Room 222, at noon today to catch the Oasis Center's Free Film Series screening of "Survivors." The film uses animation to describe the emotional and psychological impact of various forms of abuse and violence. For more information, contact 626-2051 or visit the Web site at http://w3.arizona.edu/~oasis/home.htm.

Some people can't stand insects, bugs and other creepy-crawlies; other people thrive on the little things. Therese Markow, a Regents Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the UA and member of the Center for Insect Science, will present "Cactus-breeding Sonoran desert Drosophilia: A model system for studies of adaptation and speciation" from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Marley Building, Room 230. For more information, call 621-5346 or e-mail to dhiggins@ag.arizona.edu.

Go to the Fine Arts Complex and discover the wealth of musical talent flowing freely from UA's undergraduate student pipeline. Staci Vierthaler, a harpist, will perform her undergraduate student recital in the School of Music and Dance at 7 p.m. in Holsclaw Recital Hall. For more information, call MusiCall at 621-2998 or visit the Web site at http://www.arts.arizona.edu.
