UA freshmen easliy adapt to college life

UA freshmen make switch from high school to college smoothly, surveys show

University of Arizona freshmen are making the transition into university life better than most new college students in the country, according to the results of recent surveys.

Ninety-three percent of University of Arizona freshmen say they transitioned well into college life, according to a recent poll conducted by Health Promotion and Preventive Services at the Campus Health Center. [Read article]

 

Fast facts:

  • Bombyx mori, a silkworm moth, has been cultivated for so long that it can no longer exist without human care. Because it has been domesticated, it has lost the ability to fly.
  • Drosophila, the small fruit fly, has been warmly received by the scientific community, mainly owing to the giant chromosomes possessed by the cells of its salivary glands. These chromosomes, which can stretch to more than a mile long when unraveled, allow scientists to study DNA using only a sheet of white paper and a bright table lamp.
  • A male moth can smell a female moth from 100 yards away.
  • A housefly can transport germs as far as 15 miles away from the original source of contamination.
  • A winkle is an edible sea snail.
  • An adult female ladybug will eat about 300 medium-size aphids before it lays eggs.
