The combination of freshmen and pitching helped Arizona sweep San Diego State behind two wins on Friday and Saturday.
UA freshman designated hitter Richard Mercado propelled the Wildcats to a 7-4 three-game-series-clinching win in a 4-for-5 day.
The freshman had a double, three singles and an RBI to extend his hitting streak to eight games.
UA sophomore pitcher Marc Kaiser gave up three runs on seven hits in six innings. Sophomore Tony Sulser closed out the victory to earn his second save in front of 1,363 fans, the biggest crowd of the year.
Arizona (10-1) defeated SDSU (5-4) on Friday 6-3. Freshman Jeff Van Houten clubbed a two-run homer to left-center, which was his third of the season.
Sophomore pitcher Joe Little won his third game of the year with 10 strikeouts. The seven-inning, two-run performance upped his career record to a perfect 7-0.
The Wildcats will make their first road trip of the year when they take on Texas A&M Corpus Christi Wednesday.
Last year, the Islanders finished 23-27 in the program's inaugural season.
