Scheduling hasn't been a friend to the UA gymnastics team this year.

A week after taking on one of the nation's most successful programs in Utah, the Gymcats take on this year's top-ranked team in UCLA (9-1-1, 4-1-1) on Sunday in Pauley Pavilion.

Even though wins and losses don't matter toward a team's final ranking, UA head coach Bill Ryden is looking for a good score even if it comes in a loss to the Bruins.

"At this point it doesn't matter if we are going against UCLA or the Little Sisters of the Poor," Ryden said. "We have to get healthy and concentrate on our routines. Even if we placed second at this meet, a high score is just as good as a victory."

Arizona came in second last season to UCLA at the Pac-10 Championships.

The No. 16 Gymcats (4-5, 1-2) struggled in their last outing against the Utes, partly due to two falls on the beam, usually one of their top events.

"We probably do as much on the beam as any other event," Ryden said. "I believe last week was more of a hiccup than what will be a constant problem, but this week will tell."

Sunday's meet will have two of the top gymnasts in the country going head-to-head as UA's Monica Bisordi faces the Bruins' Jamie Dantzscher.

Bisordi won her fourth all-around title of the season with a career-high mark of 39.600, which is the third-best all-around score in team history. Dantzscher is the nation's top-ranked gymnast in the all-around.

"Monica is capable of competing with these girls straight out," Ryden said. "Monica is settling into a grove and hopefully can run with it."

The Gymcats have only beaten UCLA once since 1996, in their first meeting last year in Tucson, and hold a 44-2 all-time record against UA. The Bruins went on to beat Arizona three times after the loss.

"This week is totally about us," Ryden said.
