3 recent campus assaults unlinked

Two students were sexually assaulted over the weekend, one in Coronado Residence Hall and the other at a fraternity house.

Also, two students ÷ boyfriend and girlfriend ÷ were assaulted at another fraternity house.

The University of Arizona Police Department kept news of last weekend's string of incidents quiet as the cases are still in the initial phase of investigation.

The 18-year-old student in Coronado Residence Hall told officers Sunday afternoon that between the hours of 12:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., another student whom she knew sexually assaulted her inside her dorm room, said Cmdr. Kevin Haywood, UAPD spokesman. [Read article]

Agriculture receives grant

Organization pledges $10.2 million to help start a new class to educate students and community on wise credit use

PHOENIX ÷ A Phoenix-based nonprofit organization has pledged to give the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences $10.2 million ÷ one of the biggest donations in the college's history -÷ to start courses to educate students and others on how to spend money and build credit. [Read article]

Performance will be free for students

Following student complaints, ASUA decides to refund ticket purchases

Just four days before the show, ASUA has decided to make Wildcat Comedy Night a free event for all students.

Late yesterday afternoon Doug Hartz, president of the Associated Students for the University of Arizona met with Special Events Director Sarah Calvert and Speakers Board Director Chris Wie after hearing from a number of students who couldn't afford the $15 ticket price. [Read article]

Law raises Arizona's gambling age to 21

Odds may be you've hit the slots or tried your hand at a game of blackjack, but if you are under 21 your luck is about to run out.

In November, voters passed Proposition 202, a gaming pact that allows Indian reservations to expand gambling in Arizona. The law requires that the legal gambling age be raised from 18 to 21, effective June 1, 2003.

For roommates Victor Morange, a systems engineering junior, and Chris Irwin, a political science junior, the casino has served as a release from the weekly rigors of academia. [Read article]

Lecture stresses race relations' importance in U.S. foreign policy

Kwabena Stephan X believes that history has a way of repeating itself.

"Hasn't a whole lot changed?" Stephan X, a local activist, educator and poet asked. "We need to arm ourselves and be aware of what is coming."

Stephan X is putting on a workshop series in collaboration with the University Activity Board, in an attempt to raise the level of awareness among students about the connections between race relations and U.S. foreign policy. [Read article]
