No. 2 Wildcats face tough road test against top-ranked UCLA, No. 3 Washington

It only gets harder from here.

That's what UA softball head coach Mike Candrea said last weekend after his team showed complete dominance over the Oregon schools in its Pac-10 season home opener. The Wildcats sent the fans home early in two of their three games, implementing the eight run mercy rule.

Despite the team's three-game series sweep against Oregon State and Oregon, the team isn't riding on cloud nine. [Read article]

Game Analysis: Worthy workload waits for Wildcats

Last week's "tests" against Oregon and Oregon State make this weekend's contests against third-ranked Washington and No. 1 UCLAlook like the bar exam.

Taking into account the caliber of its opponents, not to mention the circumstances under which the games will be played, it can be said that this weekend is a scheduling gauntlet for the Arizona softball team. This series of games could set the table for how the team performs throughout the rest of the season. [Read article]

It has been more than two weeks since the Wildcats' season came to an end, but that hasn't stopped freshman center Shawntinice Polk from continuing her record setting season.

Yesterday, Polk was named an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press. Polk became the first freshman in UA history to earn this honor and was the first Wildcat in five years to earn the All-American honor. Adia Barnes was the last Wildcat to do so in the 1997-98 season. Polk also became only the fifth player in the programs history to earn All-America status. [Read article]

The first two weekends of the Pac-10 schedule were at opposite ends of the spectrum for the Arizona baseball team.

The Wildcats won two out of three against Southern California on March 22÷24 in the conference opener, ran their record to 21-8 and garnered a No. 17 ranking in the Collegiate Baseball Poll.

But the high didn't last long.

Last weekend, UA dropped two games on the road versus UCLA, fell out of the Baseball America Poll and sank in the other two polls. [Read article]

Tennis eyes post season

When UA men's tennis takes the court this weekend, its postseason hopes may be on the line.

The 40th ranked Wildcats enter the weekend with 6-8 overall and 0-2 Pac-10 records, marks they must improve upon to earn a postseason berth.

UA's drive to extend its season will begin at home against two strong Pacific-10 conference opponents: No. 56 Oregon on Friday and No. 9 Washington on Saturday. [Read article]

Repeating last weekend's success will be a challenge for the UA track and field team, which travels to Los Angeles this weekend to compete against some of the nation's top squads.
