ĪCats success depends on ability to move on bases

When UA head coach Andy Lopez needs a formula for success, he only needs to look out from Sancet Field toward McKale Center, the home of Lute Olson's powerhouse basketball program that lies right across Enke Drive.

That's where he realized that speed kills.

"I like to use the analogy of college basketball. I love college basketball styles like Coach Olson's, and other programs that push the ball up quickly and press in transition," Lopez says. "I enjoy putting pressure on the defense, and from the day I started coaching, I've wanted to do that. So everywhere I've gone, I've recruited speed and utilized it." [Read article]

Wildcats off to Pullman for cat fight

Arizona tries to shake bullpen blues against Pac-10 foe Washington State

What better way to get out of a funk than taking a vacation? Although a trip to Pullman, Wash., is not exactly a vacation for the Arizona baseball team, it's at least a change of scenery and a change to leave its problems behind.

Three days ago, the Wildcat bullpen blew a three-run lead in the top of the ninth as Sacramento State clipped UA 12-11 in a painful four-hour marathon. [Read article]

After last October's adventure in front of McKale Center, the UA student government has been working on a proposal to distribute men's basketball tickets that is set to be announced at the end of April.

ASUA looked at how UA's peer institutions ÷ like Cal, Michigan and North Carolina ÷ distributed tickets. The group also talked to students from those schools to see if any their plans could help liven up McKale and offset the bluehairs in red sweaters sitting on their hands. [Read article]

Wildcats among 6,000 competitors at weekend meet

The UA track and field squad will return to southern California this weekend with postseason aspirations in mind.

Walnut, Calif. will be the site this week for the 45th running of the Mt. SAC relays, pitting Arizona against some of the best athletes in the world.

The Wildcats will send full men and women's squads to the three-day meet, beginning today, to compete against an estimated 6,000 collegiate, international and Olympic athletes. [Read article]
