4 new UA buildings approved

PHOENIX ÷ UA will get funding to build four research facilities worth $182 million, but could face more budget cuts, state lawmakers said yesterday.

House Speaker Jake Flake, R-Snowflake, said yesterday the university will be receiving funds to construct a building for biomedical science and biotechnology and a southern expansion on the Chemistry building that will provide more lab and office space. It will also include a Phoenix Health Sciences Center campus where students can take classes near the International Genomics Consortium in downtown Phoenix and a medical research building near University Medical Center. Similar bills have received bipartisan approval in the House and Senate. [Read article]

The information detailing the suspension, which appeared in The Arizona Daily Star, was obtained from a section of an internal investigation report done by the department into Officer Robb Fountain's actions in October. [Read article]

photo Prof recognized for teaching skills

Bella Vivante's students have spent some time in the dark.

But she only turns the lights out so that her students can get a better picture of ancient art.

Vivante, who has been teaching at UA for 16 years, often uses picture slides in her Oral and Spiritual Roots of Traditional Cultures (TRAD 104) class so that her students can actually have the chance to see what she is teaching.

Vivante, a professor of humanities, has recently been selected by the University-Wide General Education Committee as an outstanding faculty member for her learner-centered teaching. [Read article]
