The UA women's tennis team takes the court for its final regular season match this weekend when the Wildcats challenge a familiar foe.

No. 17 Arizona State plays host to the 28th ranked Wildcats on Saturday at noon.

Arizona, 8-11 on the season and 2-5 in Pac-10 play, will be looking to carry some momentum into the Pac-10 outdoor championships, set to kick off later in the week.

The Wildcats are riding high after an upset of No. 4 California last Saturday. Arizona got off to a quick start against the Golden Bears, winning the crucial doubles point, something the Wildcats will need to do to be successful against the Sun Devils.

The squad from Tempe comes into the weekend match 9-9 overall and 2-5 in conference. Arizona will be looking to spoil Sun Devil head coach Sheila McInerney's bid to win her 300th career coaching victory.

In 19 seasons with the Sun Devils, McInerney has taken her squad to 15 consecutive NCAA tournaments and has finished among the top-10 in the nation in five of the past six seasons.

Last time out against the Sun Devils, Arizona managed just one win, dropping the match 6-1. The sole victory for the Wildcats came by the racket of Kelly Perry, who defeated Cindy Sureephong, 6-3, 6-3.

"We need to get a good start in doubles," head coach Vicky Maes said. "If we can get that doubles point we'll be in good position to get into those singles matches with a lot of confidence."

The second-year coach will be relying on her number-one and two singles players to guide the Wildcats to victory. Emilie Scribot, winner of her past seven matches, finds herself ranked at No. 10 in the nation. The graduate student is coming off a weekend that saw the Toulouse, France, native upset two top-10 ranked opponents ÷ No. 7 Raquel Kops-Jones of Cal and No. 4 Amber Liu of Stanford.

Scribot's last loss came at the hands of this weekend's opponent, No. 11 Adria Engel, on March 26.

No. 50 Maja Mlakar is looking to capitalize on her strong play of late. The sophomore will be seeking revenge after being felled by No. 54 Dora Krstulovic last time out in Tucson.

If the Wildcats want to defeat the Sun Devils, they will need support from their four, five and six position players, Maes said.

"Everybody has played all semester long, so I think we're in good shape," Maes said. Maes said she also feels her Wildcats are playing much better than the last time they faced the Sun Devils. "If we can add another win, I think we'll be in good shape."

After concluding the regular season on Saturday, Arizona will head to the Pac-10 outdoor championship next weekend in Ojai, Calif.
