· $325 million NASA's grant to the UA for exploration of the planet Mars. The grant is the largest in UA's history.

· 60,000 Number of years since Mars was as close to the Earth as it will be on Aug. 27 and 28.

· 92 mph Speed that California Gov. Gray Davis' motorcade was clocked at as it sped along portions of California Highway 46 in San Luis Obispo County on Aug. 2, according to the Los Angeles Times. Twenty-nine people have died along the stretch, nicknamed "Blood Alley," since 1998. James Dean was killed there in 1955.

· 9 Number of hosts at this year's Emmy Awards. Ellen DeGeneres, Brad Garrett, Darrell Hammond, George Lopez, Conan O'Brien, Garry Shandling, Martin Short, Jon Stewart and Wanda Sykes will take turns, with a new host after each commercial break. ÎÎInstead of one comedic point of view running through the show, there will be many," said Don Mischer, executive producer of this year's broadcast told The Associated Press. "Each act of the three-hour broadcast will begin with a different comic personality.''

· 776 Number of housing slots for undergraduates planned to open at the UA over the next two years.

· $170 million Original value of the Deutsche Bank tower, which was badly damaged by the collapse of the World Trade Center 600 feet away. Two insurance companies are blocking plans to demolish the 40-story office tower and repair it instead, The Associated Press reported.

· 310 rebels, 15 government soldiers and 50 civilians were killed in fighting on July 7 in Bujumbura, Burundi, part of a 10-year ongoing civil war, The New York Times reported.
