Thanks to all who purified, supported nursing college

While attending the Nursing memorial service and reclaiming ceremony with my husband and 10-month old daughter yesterday, I was awed by the support shown by the UA community. Thank you to the students, faculty and staff who took a moment out of their lives to stand, pray and cry in silence and respect while the College of Nursing family processed through the university. Their music is mightier than a writer's pen

"Fire and intensity. You can't take that for granted! You've got to do it tonight. Do it for the crowd. Do it for yourself. Go and get it!"

No, this was not the closing remark to John Mackovic's pump-up speech before UA's last home football game against Washington State.

Rather, they were the powerful and passionate words of Professor Jay Rees, director of the Pride of Arizona Marching Band. Standing atop a short cement wall in the courtyard of the Ina E. Giddings building, Rees commanded the forceful sound emanating from the 250-member ensemble warm-up. [Read article]

The long-time, universally recognized symbols of the Democratic and Republican Parties are the donkey and the elephant, respectively.

Is it time for a change? Perhaps the filthy, stubborn donkey doesn't represent the Democrats of today.

Likewise, the awkward, gluttonous elephant may no longer do the Republicans justice.

But what, or whom, should the animals be replaced with? Other animals? Symbols? Single letters or numbers? [Read article]
