Driving under the influence

A Tucson man was arrested Sunday night for drunk driving after police saw him run a red light near campus, reports stated.

Police saw the man, 30, driving eastbound on East Sixth Street when he drove through the red light at North Campbell Avenue, reports stated.

Police pulled him over at his home, near the 400 block of North Sawtelle Avenue, reports stated.

When police asked him for his license and registration, they noticed he smelled like alcohol and was sweating profusely, reports stated.

The man admitted to drinking three kamikaze shots. While exiting the car, police saw him swaying front to back. The man allowed police to search his vehicle and agreed to take field sobriety tests.

Police found a pint of unopened whiskey in the car and gave the man a Breathalyzer test.

The man had a blood alcohol content of .173, more than double the legal limit, .08, reports stated.

He was cited and released on suspicion of driving under the influence while being impaired to the slightest degree, DUI with a blood alcohol content greater than .08 and DUI with a blood alcohol content of greater than .15, reports stated.

Vandalism

A student's car was surrounded by fraternity students and dented Friday night, reports stated.

The student, a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, told police that he drove to McDonald's, 1711 E. Speedway Blvd., to pick up two friends.

The student was inside his car when 40 to 50 men in the parking lot surrounded it. The student said that he could not identify any of the men but knew they were from the Delta Tau Delta fraternity because he saw them run from the Delta Tau Delta house to follow the student, reports stated.

While surrounding the car, the herd of men made two 2-inch dents on the driver-side door and rear panel, the student told police, reports stated.

The men accused the student and other members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon of destroying a Delta Tau Delta float, reports stated.

The dents were photographed and police took some fingerprints, reports stated.

The student said that he does not want to press charges but does want the incident documented.

Underage drinking

A student was cited early Saturday morning after police saw him carrying a can of beer, reports stated.

The student was walking south near 1420 N. Vine Ave. while carrying a beer can, reports stated.

Police tried to call out to the student but he began to walk away. Officers saw him toss the can on the ground, pull another can out of his pocket and toss it on the ground, reports stated.

Police finally stopped the student and asked for his ID. When they learned that he was 19-years old, they cited and released him on suspicion of being a minor in possession of alcohol and being a minor consuming alcohol, reports stated.

Underage drinking

Two students were placed into the diversion program early Saturday after police saw them trying to hide beers behind their backs, reports stated.

Police saw the two women walking between Pi Kappa Phi and Pi Kappa Alpha. When the women saw the officers, they attemped to hide the cans behind their backs and continued walking.

But officers saw the cans and stopped the women. The students, both under 21, handed their drinks over to police.

Police noticed that one of the girls smelled like alcohol. She told police that she knew she had done something stupid and said she regretted drinking, reports stated.

The other student voluntarily gave an officer a fake ID she had in her purse. She said that she had used it to get "over-21" wristbands at fraternity parties that night, reports stated.

The students were placed into the diversion program. Their beers were dumped out and the fake ID was placed into UAPD as property, reports stated.
