Colorado State came into Tucson this weekend with a 10-game unbeaten streak.

They left demoralized and battered, following a 7-2 punishment at the hands of the Icecats on Saturday night. The win came on the heels of an 8-1 blowout on Friday over the same Colorado State squad at the Tucson Convention Center.

"Colorado State was a good test after a tough weekend last weekend," head coach Leo Golembiewski said.

The Icecats dropped two games last weekend, to Penn State and Delaware, before defeating the same Delaware squad in the series' final game. With this weekend's victories, UA improves its record to 6-3 overall, along with moving from eighth to sixth in the ACHA rankings, released on Friday.

Friday's game looked like it would be a close one, with just one first-period goal, as junior forward Matt Naylor put the Icecats on top early, just six minutes into the first.

The score stayed that way through one period, before the Icecats jumped on top of the Rams for six more goals, with the lone Colorado State goal coming in the second period.

Freshman forward Tim Wochok and sophomore forward Shaun Brooks netted two goals each for the Icecats, earning them players of the game honors, while sophomore Eric Ormson, senior captain Bill Pardue and freshman Cole Dunlop each scored in the third to round out the scoring.

Pardue's goal came with just over nine minutes to go after he bolted out of the box following a penalty, took control of the puck at center ice and skated in untouched, notching the breakaway goal.

Dunlop scored his lone goal with just under two minutes to go in the game. The shorthanded breakaway goal preserved Dunlop's five-game goal-scoring streak, dating back to the Icecat win over Utah State on Nov. 2. Dunlop also finished with two assists in the game.

It was much of the same story on Saturday night, as the Icecats scored early and often.

Wochok started things off, notching his third goal of the weekend just two minutes into the game. His first three goals as an Icecat came after Golembiewski bumped him up to the third line prior to this weekend's action.

The rest of the first period was the Mickey Meehan show, as the sophomore forward added two goals just 39 seconds apart, midway through the first. Meehan added a third goal on a breakaway midway through the second, completing his first career hat trick as Icecat, with the assist coming from senior captain Dave Loftus. It was one of his two assists for the evening. Meehan was named player of the game for his efforts.

"There was a sense of urgency to put the puck in the net tonight," Meehan said. "We definitely came out ready to play."

Meehan's performance came following a conversation he had with Golembiewski prior to the game about stepping up his play and reestablishing himself on the ice.

"Mickey is a great competitor, but he's also a great kid as well," Golembiewski said.

Naylor got on the board also, tallying his second goal of the weekend, while Brooks scored his third in two days. Each player added an assist.

Freshman defenseman Mike Pelletier rounded out the scoring, lighting the lamp in the second period, while also assisting Meehan's second goal. Sophomore Don Holtz had two assists.

Goaltender Bryan Aronchick was the backbone of the team in net both nights, stopping 25 of 26 shots on Friday and allowing just three total goals during the weekend.

"They came with a 10-1-1 record, expecting to be able to beat us," Aronchick said. "We picked it up right from the beginning, though, and showed that we were the better team."
