Wildcats 4 wins from title
Over a decade ago, the hope for four consecutive Sweet 16s for the volleyball team would have been a laugh.
But those days are a memory, as last week's win over Texas propelled Arizona into its fourth- straight trip to the third round of the NCAA tournament, where it will meet Minnesota tomorrow night in Palo Alto, Calif.
The winner of the match will move on to the Elite Eight to take on the winner of the match between No. 2 seed Stanford and No. 15 seed Ohio State on Friday.

Hoops faces toughest test of year against Longhorns
Oh, what could have been this weekend ·
A matchup that could have pitted the No. 1 and No. 2 college basketball teams against each other Sunday in McKale Center was ruined a week before with Texas losing to Notre Dame. But that doesn't mean the game between the two powerhouses will lose its luster.
It will feature two of the best point guards in the country in UA senior Jason Gardner and Texas sophomore T.J. Ford.

Women hit the road for the holidays
Like many students, the women's basketball team will be spending most of its winter break away from Tucson. However, the Wildcats won't be taking a trip home ÷ they will be out on the road trying to lengthen their four-game win streak.
Over the one-month stretch between the last day of the fall semester and the first day of spring semester, the No. 19 Wildcats (4-1) will make four different trips. Arizona's first trip will be this weekend, when it goes to Columbus, Ohio to play Ohio State on Sunday at Value City Arena in the first road test for the young team.

The long road back
This can't be happening. Half a season into his professional career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Keith Smith has his shot. No more holding the clipboard, and definitely no splitting snaps. It's his show.
And then, like a cruel replay of his freshman season, everything goes to hell.
Drop back. Look around. No one's open. There's a seam in the line ÷ run.
Snap.
Just like that, Smith, the former UA starting quarterback, is lying on the half-frozen turf in Hamilton, Ontario, feeling the most excruciating pain he's ever felt.

Quarterback Q & A: UA's Jason Johnson
Perhaps one of the most disarming athletes on campus, Jason Johnson wrapped up his senior season as the UA's single-season passing leader, with 3,327 yards. But records meant little to Johnson this season, as the team stumbled to a 4-8 record and capped off the second-straight season without a Pac-10 win at home. To make matters worse, Johnson and his teammates had to weather a storm of publicity surrounding their coach John Mackovic and his ability to retain his job despite a near-mutiny by almost half the team.

Athlete of the Week
· Year: Senior
· Position: Outside hitter
· Major: Criminal justice
· Latest Highlight: Torregrosa's senior leadership was instrumental in Arizona's win over Texas last week that propelled the team to its fourth consecutive Sweet 16. Freshman All-American candidate Kim Glass was pulled in the third game and Torregrosa helped Glass regain her confidence. Glass returned to the lineup in the fourth game and led the Wildcats to the 3-2 victory. "Her leadership has been great for me," Glass said. "She is one of the only players that gets through to me. Regardless of her stats, her leadership has been so important to me and the team."

Icecats drop final game of weekend set to ASU
The seemingly inconsistent Arizona Icecats, while at times dominating opponents with ease, including a six-game win streak that saw the team outscore its foes by the outlandish total of 56-11 overall, have been forced to face something that the team and its fans aren't used to experiencing öö losses.
After an impressive 7-3 win over Arizona State Friday night, UA was tripped up the following evening, in a 6-5 shootout to the same ASU squad at the Tucson Convention Center. After trailing 6-3 midway through the third period, the Icecats tallied two score late in the game and continually threatened to notch the tying goal in the waning minutes, before being outlasted by the visiting Sun Devils.
